BJP worker sexually assaults tribal women in Navsari under false promise of marriage
A complaint was registered at Navsari police station by a woman belonging to a tribal community against a BJP worker, who is also a tattoo artist, for an alleged sexual assault multiple times, under the pretense of marriage. Based on the complaint of the tribal woman against tattoo artist Jay Soni, an investigation has been initiated by the SC/ST Cell DYSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) into a rape and atrocity case.According to her complaint, the woman had visited Jay Soni’s tattoo studio with her cousin to get a tattoo a year ago. Soni allegedly took her phone number and later began sending her messages such as “love you” and “want to hug you.”He allegedly told the woman that he was going to divorce his wife, and by gaining her trust, he formed a physical relationship with her at various places. When the woman became pregnant, Soni also allegedly pressured her to abort, and told her that he would not marry her if she continued with the pregnancy. He then made her take abortion pills and took her to a private hospital for an abortion.Even after the abortion, despite her health not being well, he allegedly continued to have physical relations again under the false promise of marriage. Later, when the woman approached Soni’s parents to talk about marriage, his parents allegedly said, “Our son is already involved with seventeen women like you. You’re just the eighteenth. We wouldn’t even keep someone like you as a househelp”.Following her complaint, DYSP Haresh Chandu from the Navsari SC/ST cell conducted an investigation and registered a rape and atrocity case against BJP worker Soni with the Navsari city police, setting the wheels in motion for his arrest.Also read:Minor gangraped in Ambaji; accused still at large
